Dawson Center
We are a non-profit that provides educational services for high achieving public school middle school students.
This summer will will bring students onto each of our two campuses (NV and CO) for a five week, full time summer program. Each year, our studies have a thematic focus and for 2010 our focus will be on Epidemic.
Our students will work in math (statistics of outbreak, linear v. geometric progression), science (viral spread, genetics,) and humanities (black death, history of colonization, 1918, public policy options.)
The poster has two goals:
to recruit students, and to brand the summer program.
The poster design will also be used in all ancillary materials (flyers, programs, etc.) related to the summer program.
Text requirements:
Large bold font: Epidemic
small text at the bottom: July 1-August 7, 2009
Logo: Alexander Dawson Foundation (provided)

This poster needs to capture everyone's attention, but we are a little concerned that H1N1 might make the subject hotter than we would like it to be.
Simplicity should be a design principle for this work...but don't make it too simple. Find the balance. I am not afraid of white space, so you don't have to be either.
The colors for this poster should be hot. Red and white are likely options, but don't go crazy with blood.
Here are some concepts that might be represented visually:
Epidemics are not about individuals: They affect large populations.
Medicine
Disaster
Government/NGO response
DO NOT reference H1N1 directly.
