Nina Cordoba is an award-winning author of very funny romance and, now, humorous mystery novels.
Wat inspireert je en hoe stel je je het ontwerp van jouw onderneming voor?
I'm working on a new funny mystery series. The first cover I need is titled: "Dead Men Don't Chew Gum". My author name "Nina Cordoba" should also be featured prominently above the title, since I already have a following. In very small letters somewhere, the words "A Martin and Owen Mystery" need to appear.
In the story, there's a dead body, some gum that's treated as evidence (Uncle Amos Organic--not a real brand), and a red Dodge ram SRT-10 that screeches off from the scene of the body dump in the dark just before Rika trips over the body. She later chases this same truck.
Although I'm not really expecting people on the cover, for your information, Rika is a dark-haired, brown-eyed Latina. Nick is a white guy with brown hair/blue eyes.
This story is a funny mystery with a romance that builds over the course of the series. It's comparable to the Stephanie Plumb novels or Dating Dead Men by Harley Jane Kozak, but with a relationship and chemistry similar to the TV show Castle. This (funny mystery) genre's covers are usually done in a cartoonish way. You can also search "funny mysteries" on Amazon to see what's out there.
This first book needs to serve as a branding model for later books. In other words, we'll want to carry over something about the look--the style, the font, an image or whatever--into future books so they look like they go together.
If you're great with fonts, colors and effects and want to make the cover about the author and title with very little or nothing image-wise, I'm open to that too. My readers like my unusual titles.
Either way, just go for it.
Keep in mind that this is a FUNNY book. It's fine to use a skull or body or something, but the cover shouldn't mislead the reader. There are a few moments of danger, but it's not a scary suspense novel or thriller.
I'm not doing the future covers at this time, but, just so you know where the series is headed, some upcoming titles are "Dead Men Don't Eat Quiche," "Dead Men Don't Flip," "Dead to the Bone," "Dead Hair Day," etc.
Although you can view my previous covers at ninacordoba.com, keep in mind that those were not the same genre, and I'd like the mysteries to have their own special look and not be as girly as my romances.
