I need a book cover for an action/adventure story called “Shipwrecked.” The target readers are between 4th and 6th grade. The Author's Name is Jacci Turner.
The concept involves creating the cover so that the book itself (or cover of the ebook) looks like it is a tattered, water-stained journal (that belongs to a young girl around age 14).
I want the cover to communicate adventure, the idea of a shipwreck, jeopardy, and mystery. The story is about a young girl, her younger sister, and a boy who survive the capsizing of a ship, but are beached on a deserted island… or so they think. While searching for the girl’s parents, they discover a collection of odd people and strange animals. The book is not paranormal or supernatural, but there are odd happenings going about and lots of mysteries to solve while steering clear of the most dangerous people.
Further possible ideas for the cover include drawing 3D items resting or placed on the journal, such as a compass, part of a flare gun (the rest clipped out of the picture) or other items of adventure involving a shipwreck. Use you imaginations here. I could also imagine a jagged corner of the journal missing (indicating a bite of some sort). There are certainly sharks as well.
The dimensions should be 3x2 (ratio) and around 1600x2400 pixels.
The cover will be used for each of 8 weekly episodes written this fall. After the serial is completed, it will be used for a paperback as well. So a flexible design for the back cover is required also (the spine measurements are unknown at the moment).
All cover design will be credited accordingly. Epifiction is a subscription service for schools, currently reaching a few thousand students. Our backlist of stories will remain available for free to all future schools who subscribe. So reach will grow exponentially in the coming years.
I’m not only looking for a single cover design, but also for future partnerships with talented artists who can be relied upon to deliver cover designs and concept art by established deadlines. Currently, Epifiction for Schools requires 8 original covers a year. YA Epifiction will be launching soon and will require 8 to 12 more per year.
I prefer artists who would consider communicating with Epifiction’s student readers via our blog (about things like how you get your inspiration, or approach a design, etc.) Because of this, I prefer artists who do not openly display erotic materials in their online portfolios. Epifiction’s subscribers are elementary and middle level schools, so we need to keep this sort of thing in mind even with our freelance contracts.
Thank you for participating!
