A book cover for my book, Dance For A Dead Princess. The current cover is too dark and makes the book seem to be a romance novel. The book is actually a complex plot of mystery and love story and is literary fiction. You can read the summary of the plot at http://www.amazon.com/Dance-For-Dea…B00C4HP9I0
I have two cover ideas. One is a grand piano with a red rose and a tiara left on top of the piano. I attach two ideas and one concept of a tiara. The hero of the novel, a powerful man who is also a frustrated musician who has lost all the women in his life whom he has loved, sits up late into the night, thinking about his lost loves and playing Ravel's haunting melody, Pavane pour une infante défunte (Dance For A Dead Princess.) This is the way he eventually wins the heroine's heart.
I am looking for art that captures the sense of loss and longing that the Pavane creates in the listener. (You can hear the short melody on YouTube) The hero has lost his mother (a famous concert pianist), his wife (the most beautiful woman in England), and his closet friend, Diana, Princess of Wales. He plays the pavane, as he tells the heroine, for "all the lost princesses." The view of the grand piano can of be a more complete view of the piano than the attached photos, although I like the focus on the keyboard.
Second concept: the ancestral home, Burnham Abbey, where the story takes place. The model for the Abbey is Hever Castle. I attach two pictures. You might want to look at the book covers for the author Mary Stewart to see how houses are used as the theme of her covers. I am less convinced that this is the option I want because it can't convey the emotion that option one can convey. This option could also possibly show a woman in Tudor dress in a back view contemplating the house. The inner story of the novel is a lover story set in Tudor Times. Again, I am less inclined to this option, but I might be surprised by a creative design.
The book was a Forward Reviews Finalist and a Beverly Hills Book Award Finalist, and I attach pictures of the awards seals that I want displayed on the cover in a tasteful way to set the book apart.
