An e-book cover for The Money Makers, a novel authored by me - which has been traditionally published in the UK and which I now intend to sell as an ebook in the US.
The cover needs the title and my name easily readable. Formatting requirements as for Amazon Kindle (ideal aspect ratio 1.5:1, min height 2100px, RGB colour). No additional text on cover, as it won't be visible on thumbnail view.
The original UK cover - and a description of the book itself - can be found here:
A US cover needs to feel more contemporary and be in tune with the American market rather than the British one. The book is a sweeping dramatic story, somewhat old-fashioned in nature - think Sidney Sheldon / Jeffrey Archer / Ken Follett / or the less thrillerish end of John Grisham / Robert Harris. I would strongly recommend that designers remind themselves of those authors' book covers on Amazon.com, to see where the market stands at present. We don't need to copy those covers, but it's worth seeing how other designers have interpreted a similar brief.
The Money Makers is a book suitable for men and women. Probably not for younger adults, but otherwise for all ages. There is plenty of tension, but not much sex or violence, so the cover shouldn't look like a traditional crime thriller.
The book's themes are to do with making money - and with the moral and personal conflicts that ensue when that aim is driven too far. There are three central male characters and the book is largely set in the UK, especially in the world of investment banking. Again, you can get a full description of the book (and reader reactions) from Amazon.co.uk using the link above.
