I have written a fantasy book for ages 9 through 99. (One of my biggest fans is 91 years old!)
Book Cover for “The Blood Jewel”
The Setting:
To entice the "supernatural" readers out there looking for something unique and interesting, I'd love to see a scene with a cliff jutting out from the left. I’ve included pictures of a landscape with a castle in it. I want the castle idea but flip it to the other side. Also make the road more old-fashioned. Since this is a series of books about another world, I need a landscape that is vast-looking, with lots of interesting green hills, purple, snow-covered mountains in the distance, fascinating clouds in the sky as well as below, etc. In the distance on the right, I want another high rock face with a lovely waterfall misting as it descends to the pool below.
To grab the interest of "creature-flick" readers I want a huge eagle/peacock standing on the edge of cliff to the left. In the profile it should have a bright golden head with eagle eyes and beak, and a crown of iridescent gold, blue and purple feathers. The body can resemble the gracefulness of a peacock but use a variety of vibrant colors. It’s feet should be feathered with large eagle claws. I want a magnificent tail hanging down below the scene and sprawling across the lower part of the cover.
Standing next to the bird is a twelve-year-old, red-headed boy wearing an orange (or red) long sleeved shirt, jeans, and tennis shoes. He’s got a jacket in his right hand but it’s dragging on the ground. We only see his back -- or perhaps his profile --because he too, like the bird, is looking out over the scene below. The boy should have a type of build on him that differentiates him from that of a small boy. His hair can be scruffy but not long (I’ve included some pictures of hair styles) and he should be half the size of the giant bird looming next to him.
The title of the book is The Blood Jewel. One of the O’s should look like it’s dripping blood. The falling drop of blood should be in the shape of a sparkling red ruby with a glow about it. We can put the font in later but gear the size of the O to be the same size “O” in the font you recommend.
It's important to me that the cover look real, not "cartoon-y".
