We would like a book cover that can also be used as an ebook cover. This book is 285 pages and when it is printed we anticipate that it would be a standard soft copy size.
The book is a true story and a beautiful love story, starting out as a erotic relationship between France (the woman) and Gérard that transforms into a much greater love. The protagonist is a 35 year old woman who falls madly in love with a stranger and leaves her family behind once things get more serious. They meet on 11th of November (11:11) at 11 am. Taking this as a positive sign she clings to number 11 and uses it for future planning in hope of a positive outcome.
Their life takes them to different countries. Starting in France (their country of birth), then living in Morocco then moving onto Senegal (West Africa). Always one day before moving something bad happens. First time Gérard (the lover) gets a brain tumour, then a stroke and finally they get poisoned in Senegal by their house keeper. Only France survives the poisoning after being clinically dead for 5 minutes. After that the story goes onto Bali where she ends up in an ashram and finds love for herself again.
She then looks into the number 11 and finds out that it has a bad connotation too - she wonders if number 11 brought all the hardship into their life. She finds God in the ashram and starts a healing experience. At the end the number 11 becomes a neutral number as she realised that she should have looked inside for answers rather then running after the appearing signs of 11.
I would like a powerful, catchy cover. Having the yin and yang symbol in the background, surrounded by a yellow mala (prayer beads) representing that there is no good without bad - it is all in the hands of the divine. Surrounding the mala I would like 8 lotus (flower) petals. I will attach a picture where you can see another symbol but is surrounded by the lotus petal. I would like the two number ones (11) to stand out as in the green picture attached, becoming a point of focus. I would like the yin side to represent light and love and the yang side darkness. The background can be plain, perhaps you can play with the digits. Maybe a snake wrapping around the number 1 on the dark side (masculine) and having flowers on the feminine (left) side. Light and dark contrast is important. I see the cover as off white with the attached font type.
In this story, the woman is eternally an optimist and represents the light over and over, as her lover falls into depression, self doubt and insecurity often, representing the darker melancholy aspects, hence the darkness.
This is the initial idea, but of course, I am open to ideas from design professionals!
The subtitle of the book is A Memory to Forget. Disputed its many difficult events, this book is surprisingly inspirational and educational, highlighting cultural integration issues expats can face when choosing to live in foreign countries. I was thinking of the colour red (a strong colour) for the title A Memory to Forget, but somehow maybe with an effect, text, etc , to make it a bit more eye-catching, rather than merely confrontational and direct.
The font used in the attached pic of Yogic Secrets appeals to me, but again, you have full artistic licence to show me something different if you feel you have something better to contribute to this design collaboration.
