A Queen To Come
Biografie van de auteur
Frances Ellen is an English-Dutch native in her early twenties with a degree in English Literature and Novel Writing. She lives in Amsterdam where she fosters an assistance dog-in-training and plays field hockey on the side
The novella follows five Asters - humans with their own special form of magic - as they and their kingdom filled with Affinites - humans with an affinity for any specific skill - wait for the arrival of their Queen, who possesses a magic that hasn't existed in five hundred years. However, there are Dark Kings who want to stop this reunion from taking place. They are trying to find the Queen's location before she can reunite with her people, and they will do whatever it takes, including torturing and kidnapping Affinites. It is up to the Asters to keep the humans on earth and the Affinites who live among them safe, and to keep the Kings at bay so that their Queen can come home.
Young adults, ranging from fifteen to twenty-five, and anyone else who loves adventure, magic, danger and an extremely diverse group of characters.
What I am looking for is a single axe in the centre of the cover (similar style to the picture of the axe in one of the added files). It needs to be a dark grey colour, with an intricate design on the hilt in red, which moves up and onto the blade itself - not completely covering the blade, but in the centre (similar to where the gold is in the image). What I have in my mind are very intricate, tiny red swirling lines. Then I like the way "Once Upon A Curse" and "Fire Within" (see files) have tracings around the edges, so I would like something similar, but then in an arabesque style - swirling lines in geometric patterns (see 2 files). A little extra information: the five magical characters in my story each have a tattooed bracelet of these same swirling lines around their wrist, which glows each time they use their magic. For the background I think I would prefer something simple like the red in "Songs of War" or the blue in "The Assembly of the Thirteen" (see files). However, magic plays a big part in this story, so I would like to see some sort of magical glow or mist or fire, either as a part of the arabesque-style tracing around the sides or behind/around the axe to make the weapon look more dramatic. I can say that I like the use of fire in "Assembly of the Thirteen" (see file), and the use of a magical glow behind the characters on the covers of "City of Glass" and "Throne of Glass" (see files). What I definitely DON'T like is the glowing symbol on the cover of "My Friend The Gifted" - that's really feels too digital to me instead of magical. For the font I very much like the thinner font styles of "Silver Mage", "Unseen Shadows" and "An Angel Fallen" (see files). I think it would look nicer if my name goes at the top of the cover, while the title comes at the bottom, and the subtitle below that. I like how the title and subtitle are separated by a small design on the cover of "Fire Within". And like with that cover, my subtitle is also split over two lines ("Asters Prequel Trilogy" on top, and "Novella 1" below that). As for the dimensions (my name compared to the title and subtitle) I think the covers I have added in the files give a good impression of what I would like. I wouldn't want the title to have two different sizes like "Songs of War", but for "A" and "To" in my title of "A Queen To Come" to be smaller than "Queen" and "Come", is something that could possibly work; I'll leave it up to what you think looks better. I hope this is somewhat clear - I am new to this and I am very excited to be working with you all and to see what you all come up with! I also wanted to mention, this is a trilogy, so if there is a design I like or even love already, and we turn it into something spectacular, I would love to work with you for the covers of novella's two and three as well. Also as you may have noticed it is called the "prequel" series, which means more books will follow (another 6 are the plan after this trilogy).
