The Power Edit exists to help amateur and professional video editors communicate more powerfully and effectively through their editing. In this book, I (Jeff Bartsch, founder of the group and author of the book EDIT BETTER whose cover you’re considering) take strategies gained from my career editing television in Hollywood and translate them into specific ways to help the readers improve the editing on whatever projects they may undertake.
The target audience is English-speaking, 80-90% male. Let’s say the typical representative is a guy named John. He is in his mid-40’s, while others in the target audience have a general age range of 25-55. John has some college education, owns some camera and editing equipment, and edits on either Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere Pro, or Avid Media Composer (in that descending order of popularity).
John isn’t driven primarily by any one big problem that keeps him up at night – though if he had to put his finger on any one issue, it would be “Why is it so hard to find usable information on the CREATIVE side of editing?” His primary motivation is sheer enjoyment and love for telling stories that have a powerful impact on their audience. His secondary motivation is improving his skills to do more and/or higher profile paid editing projects.
