Scott Karick
Author
A black and white line drawing of a sloop, crashing upward into a wave. From the viewer's perspective, the sailboat is coming from the right, passing at about a 30 degree angle to port. Due to the wave, also angled up about 30 degrees. Only the front half to 2/3 of the vessel should be visible, with the aft hidden out of frame. The name of the boat is written along a plank, about 3 or 4 planks down from the top, on the fore half of the boat: "Perdition's Reprieve" It shouldn't appear stenciled; it should be neat and clear, as if applied with care, but obviously hand-painted.
In similar writing as the boat's name (the title of the book), elsewhere on the cover: "A novel" and "by Scott Karick" I am open to location/presentation - but I don't want it to draw attention; I definitely would prefer it be smaller than the boat's name, and well away from the visual focus.
I want the reader to wonder what's on the other side of the wave.
The feelings preferably elicited: starkness, loneliness, a hint of desperation. And, of course, I want it to be iconic and "literary"
I am not dead-set against the use of a single accent color, used sparingly, if it helps elicit the response I am looking for.
If your design is selected, I will credit you as the cover art designer in the book.
