BlitzLocal-- Internet Advertising for Local Professionals
We serve professional service firms-- people who offer services such as dentists, doctors, and lawyers. And we help them show up on Google when people type in "Denver veterinarian", for example.
With Google, you can get traffic by showing up in map results, organic (natural search), paid advertising, and social media (Facebook, twitter, etc...). We pimp out these businesses' websites to rank on their keywords, plus buy ads-- driving that traffic to their site such that it results in a phone call.
When we first take on a client, we run their business and website through a series of checks to assess how good or bad their internet marketing is-- each area results in a score via a percentage bar or a good/bad icon, which is combined into an overall report card.
We want to educate prospective clients about internet marketing by allowing them to submit their site to our automated checker, get back that report card, and then motivate them to take action to fix what's wrong. That means they'll engage our services, go to our self-help section, or just continue on (oblivious to how bad their site is).
We reach out to businesses via analysts that learn our systems and tools. They earn points as they progress, which results in them hitting higher levels, much like a video game. Need icons for each level, of which we will have 10- you can name each level.
Most of our clients are older and are not web and design geeks-- if you're reading this, I'm talking about you! They run their own law firm, dental practice, body shop, roofing repair, and so forth.
They want a SIMPLE solution, so it can't look complicated. An almost cartoony look will comfort them, but we don't want to be silly. We want fun, colorful icons for each tool we offer.
The same is true for our analysts-- our folks that are serving these small businesses. They are not professional internet marketers, but often stay at home moms, students, and designers that want to learn about SEO, PPC, social media, and other services they can learn just well enough to sell to clients and manage their own web business.
They enjoy learning in little bits-- consider how merchantcircle.com does it: http://www.merchantcircle.com/blogs…es-/292276. Their analysts have badges for "top rated", a star rating, and other points-based award icons. You can also consider how sparkpeople.com shows trophies for folks who have hit each level: http://www.leveltendesign.com/_inte…ophies.jpg
Our new site is at http://dev1.blitzlocal.com/blitzlocal_blog/. Use your creativity-- try to keep with a general white and blue theme-- then a brighter color for action.
Deliverables:
Provide designs in PSD, we will slice and implement.
1) icons for each of ten analyst levels-- you come up with the names for each level. The icons will sit below each members name such as at http://www.seomoz.org/users. Dimensions are flexible. Can even overlap the user's 80x80 pixel image. Can be as simple as a text design that is repeated or a series of themed images of increasing status (analyst, manager, director, VP, etc...). Or another theme such as bronze, silver, gold, platinum, executive platinum, etc... If you have a hard time with coming up with level names, just assume levels 1-10 with increasing executive/success/status appeal.
2) icon for blitzrank (how local are you, with map-like theme). I like the icons at http://www.seomoz.org/tools. The winner will have first dibs at the other tools we release in the next few weeks. Will be 125x125, but resized smaller, too.
3) icon for good and bad ranking-- some form of green check box and red X-- or another way to show yes or no. 40x40 approx size.
