As Massachusetts only STEM school for K-6 students, The Benjamin Banneker Charter Public School is a nurturing community of learners that uses literacy, the arts, and technology to excel in science, engineering, and mathematics.
All members of the Banneker community will support these common goals as we help pre-K through sixth grade students develop self-confidence, strong character, a sense of compassion, and a joy for lifelong learning as we prepare them for future success in school and in life.
The Banneker is the inspiration of concerned community leaders, parents, and educators, with the common vision and purpose of providing all Cambridge and local youth with a high quality education.
With commitment, patience, and perseverance, we will strive to meet the needs of all learners, regardless of race, culture, language, or socioeconomic status, and challenge our students daily – expecting and celebrating excellence."
The school serves 350 students, 90% African American, 80% living at or below the federal poverty line.
The school is named after Benjamin Banneker (youll want to read about him on his wikipedia page - an interesting fellow). The logo needs to in some way pay homage to him. School colors are Barnyard red - they dont have an official CMYK or pantone yet)
One strong suggestion is to play off an astrolabe for a focal point. Certainly a compass might work too...
Another strong suggestion is to reboot the image of Banneker himself (its easy to find the three artistic renderings of him on google.
We've attached their current, ahem, 'logo' titled Banneker3.jpg and a second jpeg (banneker7.jpeg) which is merely a photo of Banneker himself, and a simple astrolabe that the school's headmaster likes.
The school needs something modern, tied into Banneker, but not corporate, it is after all, an elementary school. the headmaster has stated she wants a logo with an elementary school feel but not cartoony
