The image I am looking for is a butterfly bursting from its cocoon for the first time -- but a stylized and dramatic capturing of that moment -- not necessarily exactly true to life, but showing that moment all the same. (For example, a creative difference from the biological reality that I'd like to see captured is that the butterfly might bend its wings, like an eagle ready to take flight, when in real life butterflies don't bend their wings - they are always flat.)
While our product, children's books, are meant for young children, I don't care for the 'cartoony' or 'childish' style that is prevalent in children's literature. I want a logo that is more serious in tone.
I imagine it to be more of a dramatized sketch, with the focus on the newly emerged butterfly, while in the background the old cocoon 'home' is (kind of) dissipating into the air. It should be intense, dramatic, bold. The butterfly is experiencing a moment of true freedom - of actually being, and no longer becoming, what it was meant to be. It is experiencing the fullness of itself for the first time. The image can be emotional, but determined. The butterfly should be strong, though it is literally 'discovering its legs'. The butterfly is finally realizing that it is "made to fly," and that it was ALWAYS "meant" to fly, though it took a long time and a lot of change to 'be what it was meant to be.'
