*UPDATE*: I have included some examples of the jars and lids that we are considering purchasing. Perhaps this will help designers int heir choice of colours etc. We also plan to continue using vintage crystal and old jars like moccona jars as we are passionate recyclers.
This is the description on our little Facebook group - it's not a business at this stage - it's a way to keep my mother alive. That may sound strange however when you have a debilitating and chronic illness, something like this is sometimes a life changer.
I began making candles to help distract mum from her everyday health battles. I hoped that I could get her involved in searching for unique candle holders, sell them to her friends, maybe have a few market stalls.
Mum's kidneys have failed which means she needs dialysis to stay alive. She goes 3 times a week - 5 hours each day. It's painful, uncomfortable and boring. Dialysis patients often suffer from depression. Add to this diabetes and Cardiovascular disease and you can see that every day is a struggle for mum.
She is 61.
At the moment, mum is choosing to donate the profits of the new candles that we make to Kidney Health Australia and I will continue to do the refills to help fund my animal rescue work.
I hope that this gives mum a sense of purpose to her day, knowing that her never ending creativity is helping to make a difference.
- our candles come in a variety of looks as we not only use new glassware, however some of our more distinct pieces are sourced from op shops which have vintage crystal. I have included a pic of these in the files. these may only have a logo placed underneath so not in plain sight - this avoids detracting away from the overall effect of the candle.
