The footpaths of the native Abenaki have slowly given way to well worn trade routes throughout the Northeast Kingdom. Old Route Two traces the Winooski River, which provided natives and settlers alike with an abundance of wheat, barley, oats, rye, corn, and potatoes, some of which was fermented, distilled and smuggled north into Canada. As mule tracks became wagon trails, apples, honey and maple sugar lent a taste of Vermont to travelers far and wide. Old Route Two became not only a means of economy but a way of life: each season marked by the drop of a seed, the till of the soil or the tap of a tree. Vermont has made an indelible impression on those who catch a taste of our maple or a glimpse of our farmsteads bathed in fall. And, it is this rich heritage, this cultural touchstone that we wish to embody in our spirits line.
From seed to still, Old Route Two Spirits will source local grains, botanicals, fruits and wood to create our line of spirits. From our first line of rum to our refined gin and matured whisky, our spirits will reflect the strong agricultural traditions of where we call home.
Old Route Two is not just a name. It is quite simply the route that ties our homes and our lives to one another… it is the path we take as we venture forth to source from our local farms and where we will draw the water for our stills. We want our logo to reflect that integrity with a simple yet functional design that allows others to recognize when they will be having a taste of Vermont.
