Logo Design: *See picture of sculpture in Chicago for the desired
gesture and feeling of the image.* For the graphic, think of a dynamic
10 -30 second gesture drawing. The LINE OF ACTION. Think dynamic
energy pushing down and reaching up from a centre point. The plant
image is a metaphor for myself, so the images I've included of single
sprouting plants as a female human - a gesture drawing/line of action
that combines the plant and the human form in simple, dynamic image.
Growing down while reaching up. I want something simple that connects
this image/idea of a seed/shoot/root without it looking like a
gardening or landscaping company. I like the quality and variety of
line and composition of the lines to form the trees in the first image
uploaded below (the one with four trees, from smallest to largest).
Black and white and grey appeal because it's clean and simple, but am
open to other colour options. No purple, orange, or red.
It's for the entertainment industry, so I want to find a balance
between the rural, seedling images and a modern, sleek design.
The company is for me and my work. I value vitality, movement,
fitness, spiritual and physical health, authenticity, honesty,
courage, humour, being grounded and centred, exploration and
In the immediate future I'll be using the logo for online and print,
but I want to be able to use it for any purpose, which is why I
selected all of the available options.
More about First Root: I called my company First Root because in
creating my first play I was discovering and developing an artistic
connection to my roots, history, experiences of growing up in a rural
lifestyle, and the primary relationship of mother and daughter. This
work allowed me to tap into a natural freedom of expression inherent
in creating from that which was already there, unique and hungry for
exploration and interpretation. Like a dormant seed that once
nurtured, will send down a root while also sending up a shoot. And
from that core, in seeking the light and the dark at the same time,
there is potential to grow higher by going deeper.
Inspired by the wide reaching connection available through honouring
ones primary influences, questions, passions, and background, First
Root aims to connect performer and audience in a shared experience of
universal themes via personal storytelling and creation.
