no slogan, but if there is a way to have an alternate versions that includes a domain name (pazaz.com or pazazpress.com), that would be helpful to have as a secondary version for certain uses.

This is a new publishing company that will print multiple books and titles through Createspace/Amazon. Most of the books published will be non-fiction, and generally education/information related, but with a lighter, entertaining approach to make the important content accessible and appealing to the masses. Hence the "Pazaz" name. The goal is to have the publishing logo look "official" like other more well-known labels such as Penguin, Random House, Simon & Schuster, Houghton Mifflin, Harper Collins, etc. Ideally the logo would look clear and professional in both a horizontal and vertical presentation, so that it would look good on both a printed page and the spine of a book. It should walk the line between polished/professional and "snazzy", given the play of words with Pazaz and "pizzazz".

The word "Pazaz" itself could very well be part of the logotype. The nature of the word lends itself to this approach. I have added this comment after seeing the first dozen or so designs in which just using an arial or times roman typeface seems to not do the trick.
My initial instinct is to use a book image with the words stacked below, like the ones attached. Best to be simple and clear about what we do...publish books. Also, a book image works in the small, horizontally tight format needed for fitting on a book spine. A circle or triangle image could also work as a theme that works in short horizontal space with the words stacked below. The word Pazaz I think should be larger than "press", but since its the same number of letters, the word press could have more space between letters (kerning). I also do want the logo to have the appropriate "pizzazz" representative of it's name, but to still maintain a publishing company formality and credibility. I know that is contradictory, but I'm hoping to find that right combination.
