Here is my thoughts for concept:
Mental health issues affect us all, and even children unfortunately are not immune. I personally suffered from severe anxiety as a young child, and only recently in my adulthood did I discover that "being anxious" is not just a normal part of life (if it's constant). Thankfully now we are learning more and more about anxiety, depression and other mental issues and catching it much earlier. And especially so, we are talking about these issues much more than we were in the past. However, it's not enough. Many kids (and their parents too, at times) suffer needlessly because of a lack of information, and a stigma that stops them from seeking help (or admitting there's a problem).
I think the symbol of Mental Health Empowerment Day should be some sort of character, a symbol of strength, but one we might all be able to relate to, and look up to. I think the image of a superhero is very powerful, especially when we're including kids (family friendly) into the mix. However, because I know first hand even a kid can be hit with anxiety and depression, I want the hero to be a kid. And I want the kid to be somewhat of an unlikely hero, but a hero none the less.
Please check out this YouTube clip:
This is a little boy from Philippines named Balang. Ellen sort of made him uber famous by putting him on her show. He's pretty much the cutest little boy, he's chubby (I was as a kid too), and he loves life. He's just so comfortable in his own skin, it makes him remarkable, and makes him an unlikely hero. I'd like it if we can make this young superhero to be modelled after him. I have straight brown hair and green/brown eyes, I think it would be cool to make a chubby little me (essentially) if possible. But take Balang as a source of inspiration.
I'm also uploading some random pics I found on google of kid heros, use those as inspiration as well.
In addition to the mascot superhero image, the mascot himself should be wearing a superhero symbol. I'd like you to use your creativity to come up with something that would signify mental health, and also be cute. Try thinking of a brain, or a heart, boldness, strength.
And finally there should be a text portion for MENTAL HEALTH EMPOWERMENT DAY in a cool, bold, exciting font.
In terms of the style, I like the vividness of the cartoons attached. But I'm open to suggestions.
Thanks for joining the contest, and stay tuned for updates!
