What does ‘Kylani’ mean, I hear you asking. It’s actually an amalgamation of parts of two first names (Kyle and Melanie). I don’t think that will help with the logo design, but at least your curiosity has been satisfied.
Preferred colours are black, white, red and gold, but I am flexible (in mind if not body).
The logo must look good regardless of scaling. (I'm not sure if this is standard or not.) Also, if it were printed in grayscale (ie on a page in a paperback book) the business name would need to stand out.
The successful designer will need to be able to deliver the logo as a vector (AI or EPS) and PNG (transparent background).
I quite like the idea of:
-> a fountain pen on an angle above the business name, positioned so that a drop of red ink dots the ‘i’ in Kylani.
-> twelve books supported by bookends. Eleven of the books would be used to spell out Kylani Press, and a blank book would appear between the two words. The book spines might be different colours, or the same (whichever looks best). The bookends would incorporate some fancy scroll-work or some other cool design.
I've attached rough hand-drawn images of how the above two might look, and some publishing-related logos that I like as well.
Just had an additional thought in relation to my 12-books sketch: maybe one set of books (and the blank book) could be replaced with a generic eBook reader or tablet, and the word that those books spelled out could appear on the eBook reader or tablet screen… (Just a thought. I'll leave it to you creative types to ponder.)
Lastly, a big thank you for taking the time to read my brief. I look forward to receiving your design.
