*** the DESIGNS we are getting in are TOO LITERAL i.e. they are just a dumpster or the outline of a dumpster. We are looking for something more creative for the design - something that hints at a dumpster but leaves a little mystery and a little imagination ****
*** your logo should be FUN and PLAYFUL if possible (yet clean) ***
*** it should somehow HINT at the fact it is a dumpster (especially when there is no text in the logo)
***logo needs to work well on a website, print and digital collateral, and possibly on the Dumpster
***color palette needs to be streamlined and sophisticated yet engaging (no B&W or grayscale logos)
*** font should be similarly simple yet inviting (and easy to read!)
*** DUMPSTER needs to be in all caps. It's actually an acronym for Developing Underutilized
Methods for Promoting Sustainable, Transformative
Education & Research
We are looking for a representation of a "container that can be transformed" or a "container for living" and some connection to sustainability or economy of form.
DESCRIPTION of overall DUMPSTER project....
What if we were to live in a world with less?…Less consumption, less waste, less clutter. Our lives could be simpler, our environment healthier, and our communities stronger. The DUMPSTER Project boldly seeks to explore the possibilities of a life with less through a yearlong experiment in which a cross disciplinary team turns a dumpster into a dynamic and interactive lab for sustainable living. As an innovative teaching
and technology platform, the DUMPSTER project will engage us all via an online portal and mobile lab in the journey to a lighter footprint.
Goals. The two primary objectives of DUMPSTER are:
• To build the most carefully designed small living space ever constructed with the exception of a manned space capsule; and
• To inspire the next generation to live more sustainably. The key thrust of this project is to invigorate conversation and action amongst K-12 students, college students, local communities and the wider public to be mindful about the general theme of ‘less is more – much more’ both formally (in University and K-12 educational curriculum) and informally (through film and community talks).
During the yearlong DUMPSTER project, an Environmental Science Professor, aka ‘Professor Dumpster’ will live in a trash dumpster that has been retrofitted to include sustainable technologies and design principles aimed at reducing waste. Retrofitted technologies for the dumpster will include, for example, potable water filtered from local surface and capture; a composting toilet; a solar-heated shower; and solar-generated electricity.
