SpriteHype
SpriteHype is a company that was formed as a game development company, though I'll probably end up doing a little of the "standard" application development, too. Our games will be created for multiple devices, form factors and machines, so I'm not tied to any particular brand or platform. To reiterate, I'm mainly focused on games. :-)
The name SpriteHype was chosen as a bit of an homage/throwback to retro gaming (NES/Genesis/Super Nintendo/Early PC Gaming era). As I was deciding on a name, I wanted something that sounded fun, felt energizing, and had a bit of a tech feel that showed it's "old school" roots in gaming.
I choose "Sprite" because, even though it's a technical term, it's something that has entered most people's vernacular... even those not associated as much with technology. As stated above invokes thoughts about 2D games and an era of gaming in particular.
The "Hype" portion of the name is used to evoke the energy and fun of it all!
Even though I talk a lot about "retro gaming." I don’t really plan on doing retro titles per se. It's more about the games that influenced us and the gaming age I grew up in.
I'm sure this is important with all companies, but the logo of a game company is usually the first thing the player sees when running a game created by that company. It immediately conveys a feeling and sets up what the company has produced.
The main customers looking at the logo are gamers, but may be end application users. The logo may also be embedded in software, so if the logo is overly game specific then it may be lost on the broader audience that I am hoping to attract. This also applies to gamers who may not necessarily identify themselves with in the gaming world.
I don't have a whole lot of requirements per se but wanted to pass along some items that I think will be helpful and that I would like to make sure are thought of when putting together the logo. This ended up being longer than I thought, so I've hosted my full Design Brief here http://bit.ly/18TBgS I hope you can take the time to give it a look as it contains the delivery format, etc.
Logo "Feel"/Design - Let your imagination go wild! I've hopefully outlined some of the things I used when coming up with the name, and I would love to see a logo that translates those same things (retro/gaming, fun, energy, etc.). There is a fine line that I am worried about hitting with the logo where I would like something that looks really nice and colorful but can still maybe evoke a bit of "retro". I really don’t want to do something that's just like the Video Games Live logo as the retro throwback: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_Games_Live
