Logo for a HipHop/Mixtape DJ

DJ Rollin Deep

This design project is for one of my clients who is an aspiring Mixtape DJ. The logo to be designed will be displayed on many different avenues: his website, promotional material, Mixtape and album covers, social media profiles, and many other places.

Clarification on the term Mixtape: for those who don't know, Mixtapes are CD's used in music as a promotional tool for new or already established musical artists. Mixtapes are usually free and contain music that will not be released on a regular studio album that will be sold in stores. These Mixtapes are usually hosted by DJs who are essentially co-signers of the CD. Musical artists are usually inclined to have their Mixtape "co-signed" by a DJ because the DJ's are well-known to the public.

The audience here is consumers of mixtapes. Mixtape consumers tend to be young (under 25), fans of hip-hop culture, essentially urban america.

DJ Rollin Deep's nickname is "The 5-Star Mixtape General" so the logo can easily reflect that by employing an army or military styled theme. I feel that military style themes tend to be dark, but don't let that tie you down to staying with a darker theme. While I am interested to see dark designs, I am equally interested in seeing colored designs as well. Also please keep in mind an army/military style is not final so feel free to use a different theme if a good idea pops up in your head. We are very open minded.

The nickname doesn't necessarily have to be included in the logo, but it would be interesting to see how it can be incorporated - perhaps by having 5 prominent stars. The entire phrase doesn't necessarily have to be included.

I have attached the logo of a fellow mixtape DJ who goes by the name "DJ Smallz." This should give you a good idea since logo's for mixtape DJ's are rare. Notice it doesn't have to be formatted like most company's will have their logo (horizontal rectangles.)

I have also attached a few army/military examples in case they can help you get the creative ideas flowing or serve as inspiration. Again, these are in no way intended to tie designers down to look like these designs.
