Just to be clear, this contest is for a product brand logo, not a company name logo.
We are a company that retails niche products to end use purchasers only through a website dedicated to the niche product (which will be another 99designs project). We have decided to offer noise reducing ear muffs in a child's size, in two colors at first--pink and baby blue. There is one competitor in the market (google "Peltor Kid earmuffs"), but the competitor suffers from poor branding and poor marketing at the retail level, especially on the Internet, and the product is priced too expensively. We want to out brand the competition quickly and immediately, so that when people think kids earmuffs, they think of Moggies brand.

The target audiences are two. First, the purchasers will likely be mothers/grandmothers, who want to protect the hearing of their kids/grandkids while the child is at a loud event. Such loud events can include fireworks displays, concerts, and sporting events. The child can be a newborn baby up to about 7 years old. Second, the end users (the children) are also an audience. The child should enjoy wearing the product, and branding on the earmuff itself should help.
The aim is a logo that incorporates both the brandname (Moggies) and a design element, which can but does not need to help convey the intended use of the product (hearing protection for kids). The logo should appeal to the purchasing mother/grandmother and secondarily to the end user child. Our company believes that creativity is the most important part of branding, so designers have at it.
The logo will be the primary attention getter on the product website, on product packaging, and on the product itself. A picture file showing the product is attached. In attached product example, the logo would appear on widest face of the pink components. The logo can utilize any color or color combinations (such as when used on the website or packaging), but should still look acceptable when reproduced in just white or black on the product itself.
