We just took over a restaurant in Paia on the North Shore of Maui Hawaii. We will be serving locally grown, organic, pacific rim inspired food in a relaxed fine dining and family friendly restaurant. We are having fun and really want to push the envelope for fine dining here on the island.
The old restaurant "Moana Bakery and Cafe" has been open for 12 years and served some great food over that time. Unfortunately in the last couple of years it has gotten tired and currently needs a lot of love.
We are planning a major remodel and revamp and plan to bring the restaurant and atmosphere totally up to date. Our chefs have worked all over the West Coast of the US for some great restaurants including, the Ritz in SF, Pairs in Seattle etc. Our executive chef, James Walworth, is creating a menu of modern Hawaiian dishes by applying the sensibilities of West Coast cuisine to Maui's bounty to produce fun and unpretentious food.
The name Moana 2.0 is meant to imply the fresh new approach to that we are bringing to the restaurant. We are implementing new technology (ipad and ipod based POS systems), fresh ideas in the kitchen and plan to be one of the best places to eat in Maui and recognized as such in Hawaii and beyond.
Paia the town where the restaurant is situated is an interesting small small town (it really only has two main streets running through it. Paia is an eclectic mix of hippies, surfers and tourists. It used to be a plantation town where the people that worked in the cane fields lived. Nowadays it has a mix of everything, but is still pretty sleepy and not techie.
I have uploaded the existing logo for the restaurant to give you an idea of what has come before. We want to respect that history and culture but also celebrate progress and technology, which we all love.
The food that we are creating is exciting and we will be exploring lots of different cultures and tastes as we evolve and explore.
