General feel of the Website:
Our website is a samurai-based 'shop' of sorts. We are looking for a unique, original design. Basically, when you look at the site, you should feel like you stepped into a shrine of all things samurai. So, for instance, the design could include samurai swords watermarked into the background, samurai masks or armour behind the left navbar, old samurai homes across the top navbar. Samurai sketches, in pencil, subtley worked into the design with old japanese symbols for things like'the bushido code' One good example of a great use of a subtle background can be seen on this website:
http://bushidocode.org/ - behind the writing on the left.
Overall, I would like to integrate an oriental, japanese samurai feel to the site without being overbearing or '1990's' background style.
The layout of the site should match this one:
http://www.windwake.net - in fact, I would love to have a design of this quality, using the same positions as everything on that page, only related to samurai and the samurai way.
A great image for a sidebar bg could be something like this:
I am not fussed on colours but my gut feeling is saying stick with fairly neutral colours, easy to read colours. So for instance, in the image above, colours would match that and bring the whole design into perspective and flow.
The site will be Samurai Shop and and I am not looking for anything overtly flash or fancy for the logo. Just a clean, up to date, professional, stylish and unique logo. Colours again would be fairly neutral or strong colours...If you imagine everything you felt while watching the movie, 'The Last Samurai', that is what I want to try and capture in the logo. So perhaps the text along with the japanese symbols for th ebushido code and the way of the samurai, or each one of the 7 codes of the samurai behind the text or even just one of them...integrated into the letters perhaps, so for every 'o' or 'a' a code symbol would replace it etc. Just one idea...
I am hoping some of you designers can be creative here and take away my general suggestion and turn it into something amazing :-)
A samurai themed website that looks as good as this site here, http://www.windwake.net, only it relates to samurais, not antiquities. The layout at the windwake site is perfect and I would like this matched as much as possible in the new design.
