Total RunTime with Andrew Horng
This is a new YouTube channel/show (starring me, Andrew Horng!) :-) The show will be mostly videos of me reviewing newly-released movies each week. It'll be a fun time, but I'll definitely be providing some serious in-depth analysis, too. It's aimed at young adults who love to watch films and YouTube. I'm thinking 18-34 year olds.
Each video, I'll be wearing a Marty McFly (from "Back to the Future") outfit, and will have "Terminator" posters behind me. And at the start of each video I'll say, "Yooo... welcome to Total RunTime! You know what time it is. It is TIME to RUN through (name of movie).” Right after, your logo will slide into the entire frame as a 1080p title card for all to see. And then, it’ll cut back to me giving the review. My goal is to get this show past 1,000,000 subscribers.
I'd like to explore the following colors:
Blues: Knowledge, trust, calm and honesty.
Reds: Energy, action, passion and love.
Dark neutrals: Formality, mystery, exclusivity and luxury.
1.) I’d like “with Andrew Horng” to be (or appear) smaller than “Total RunTime.” I’ll attach 2 examples of talk show logos that I like, which do this. James Corden’s kind of cheats because his name’s the same size, but appears a tad smaller due to the bigger “Late” words. Great logo-- I just love it for some reason. Also… feel free to capitalize any word(s), if you like.
2.) Both "Terminator" and "Back to the Future" films use red, blue, and metallic silver. Marty wears a RED vest, a BLUE denim jacket, and SILVER aviator sunglasses. The Terminator's exoskeleton is SILVER, its eyes are RED, and the setting of the film always appears BLUE. I'd like you to play around w/ one or more of these colors... that is, if they suit your design. If not, don't worry about it.
3.) Both LIGHTNING and FIRE are present in both films. The Clocktower gets struck by LIGHTNING and the Terminator is sent through time w/ LIGHTNING. The DeLorean streaks w/ FIRE and the opening credits of "Terminator 2" have FIRE. Might be cool to include. ***BUT NOT REQUIRED, so don't force these 2 elements in, if they don't work. Just throwing out ideas that may or may not be cool. NOTE: please do not create specific imagery reminiscent from the films (e.g. no Clocktowers, no DeLoreans, etc.)
4.) More random ideas: perhaps play around w/ an image of a celluloid filmstrip. Might be a nice touch. Or not. Again, your call. Same goes for any other type of movie imagery (i.e. popcorn, movie seats, clapboard, etc.) ***NOT REQUIRED.
5.) At the end, I’d like an Adobe Illustrator AI file from you (vector drawing of logo), so I can possibly animate it later, if I wish.
THANK YOU SO MUCH for considering this contest. I really do appreciate you submitting a design, if you choose to do so. Good luck to you! And… most importantly, have fun! :-)
********************EDIT/UPDATE********************
DIMENSIONS: I’ll be shooting the show in 1080p, so you may want to start your canvas in a 16:9 aspect ratio (w/ 1920x1080 resolution or more).
TONE: YouTube and movie-going can be a fun, light-hearted experience. But keep in mind, I’ll also be reviewing serious films as well as screwball comedies. So, ideally I’d like the logo to be fun and light-hearted, but mature and respected as well. A balance! :-)
Also, after searching through some other design contests, I’ve realized a preference…
COLOR: I’m not really a fan of just “solid” colors. So, for instance, instead of a plain white background, I prefer a white background that looks… “textured.” Perhaps w/ a lighting effect or something? Just something that feels more… real, like there’s something there.
In general, same preference goes for colors in the foreground, too. Meaning, maybe use a gradient effect if you can?
CLEVERNESS: If it’s clever, I’ll probably love it.
RISK IT UP: don’t be afraid to take risks!
