SitePoint
sitepoint.com is an enormously popular portal for web designers and developers. In addition to our huge forum community we publish tutorials, news, books (in print and eBook format), training courses and much more.
Those of you who have been part of the 99designs community for a while will know that 99designs began its life in the SitePoint Forums. The two companies are like sisters, but we fight less than most sisters do. Except when it comes to foosball.
Our target audience is web designers and developers — both freelance business owners and salaried designers and developers. Most visitors classify themselves as either beginner or intermediate level.
Design our tagline (Become a better web developer), and place it in the header of the site.
Seriously, that's all there is to this brief. We're not asking for an entire blog theme, or even an entire page! We don't even need you to come up with the tagline—we've done that already. All we want is for you to find an aesthetically pleasing way for it to be integrated into the header of our site.
Here's the tagline in question:
Become a better web developer.
Simple, huh? Theoretically. There are a few caveats:
• The tagline should be placed somewhere in the header that is prominent (above the primary nav bar). The goal of this tagline is to communicate to first-time visitors to the site exactly who the site exists for and what people can do when they visit.
• The balance of the header must be maintained. Just whacking it in the white space available between the logo and the Search box probably isn't the answer—doing so will result in a cluttered page.
• The logo is important—don't mess with it. Introducing visual elements that encroach on its prominence is walking on shaky ground.
• The location of Search is up for grabs. Placing it in the nav bar, as in the attached screenshot, will certainly give you more room to play with.
The winning design will find its way onto the header of every page on sitepoint.com, seen by millions of designers and developers worldwide.
Good luck!
