We are a small Micro Distillery producing a range of premium liqueurs and spirits.
our products are sold through our cellardoor, wholesale and via the internet with in Australia.
Wat inspireert je en hoe stel je je het ontwerp van jouw onderneming voor?
We would like a label designed for a new liqueur product. (front and back label)
We are ready to release the product. This liqueur is a traditional Italian Liqueur made from Green walnuts, called ‘Nocino’ or ‘Liqueur de noci’
We are keen to highlight a few different concepts and probably haven’t reached a conclusion about some aspects. Having said this some thoughts are as follows:
• We really like the notion that our products are from a clean environment an image that evokes much of the emotion represented in the current domestic campaign to promote KI. (see: http://www.southaustralia.com/thing…f-go.aspx). The brief for this advert was “Where the wild things are”
• This product will be limited in volume so the market will be purely Australian Domestic retail/wholesale..
• We regard our products as ‘Slow Spirits’ - a phrase derived from the “Slow Movement” to describe spirits made in a style similar to ‘slow food’ ie: using high-quality fresh local and seasonal ingredients, being prepared with care, produced passionately, using traditional processes and recipes. Using few or no new appliances. Nocino is a very traditional liqueur and has wonderful stories and traditions involved in its production.
• The product itself is a very dark , almost black liqueur (see photos).It is rich, and bitter sweet
• We would like our logo (or perhaps a derivative of it) used in the design but it needn’t be overly prominent. (see attached logo)
• We imagine something traditional looking to represent the products traditional origins
• In Australia ,the same legal requirements apply to labelling laws for wine and spirits. The label must show :
o 33 % Alc/Vol.
o 9.8 standard drinks (can be quite small font)
o Made in South Australia
o The name and address of the distillery and contact details. We consider the web address to be satisfactory for contact details (and then also serves as a contact for customers.)- http://www.kispirits.com.au
o There does not seem to be any restriction on font size (many wines have very small fonts for some of this information) nor are there any stipulations for what should be applied to front or back label. We tend to put as much on the back as we think we can get away with to keep the front simple and clear.
We currently print most labels onsite using a Primera LX900 label printer. This is very convenient when we have 10 products in up to three different sizes. It would be extremely expensive for us to have commercial quantities of all these labels printed off site. Also gives us a greater degree of flexibility so if we the % alc vary from batch to batch then we can adjust the label and not the product. We have also had experiences of International Bottle manufacturers deleting the line of bottle we use and if we had pre-printed labels they would be wasted. This is a common problem when spirit bottles vary so much and we know of other distilleries who have experienced this.
The limitations of this printer is that it can only print on white labels (we use a white matt PVC waterproof label) and the colour range is limited to 4 x colours cartridges. The label dimensions we would like to use areare :
• Front & Back 38 W x 120 H
• This printer prefers the design not to run over the edge of the label so the design needs to be inside these dimensions.
The bottle we will use will be a tall thin 375 ml bottle and we can use a fitted cap (we use nova twist caps) with neck in black, silver/grey, gold or red . We probably prefer the black but are open to suggestions depending on design.
