The task is to design the left column a framed web application. This area is a user interface consisting of 2 vertical frames. The design should utilize visually appealing techniques where possible, while at the same time be easy to read and optimized for usability. In the brief are links to a sample layout as well as styles that look good to me.
The application is a split-screen design – this contest is only concerned with the left portion, upper and lower. Below is a link to a photograph of paper mockups of the two frames to be designed. These are given only to show functionality. It is left to the designer to determine the style and alignment. From the picture, you will see that the left hand area is approximately 1/3 or 1/4 the size of the screen:
Here is another photograph showing sketches of the four tabs and what each contains, as well as two versions of the details frame.
Also, here is an example of what is contained in the right hand frame, though it is not part of this contest:
The Site tab has a larger, colorized “Go” button. This button needs to be something special. I would like to see something glossy, metallic, or glass, with a shiny chrome rim or something along those lines. Here are two links to buttons similar to what I am looking for:
For the interface, I like the look of the Apple OSX dialogs such as here:
For the buttons, I like Web 2.0 and 3D icons as well as the glass look, such as here:
You can submit only the "Site" tab with the "equipment details" frame to give me an idea of what you have. It if looks good I will request the remaining 4 frames, which will need to be designed prior to awarding the prize. After the prize has been awarded, I will need all 6 frames delivered in layered .psd format.
- Mac OSX look
- High-end, polished look
- text areas should be black-on-white
- Icons for the buttons
- Gaming look
- Hard to read
