Here some content I wrote up quickly. It is not final but should give you something to work with and also a good idea of what we represent:
Mission: Achieving client satisfaction and return business by offering top-end IT software developers and project managers with focus on choosing the right tools for the job and maintaining the highest quality standards to deliver successful projects within time and budget.
With a bit of practice
- everyone can build a house - not everyone can build a sky scraper
- everyone can build a paper airplane - not everyone can build a space shuttle
- everyone can build a website - not everyone can build a complex web system
What sets the specialists apart from the pack?
Talent!
We suck in building houses and paper airplanes but we sure know how to build enterprise level web systems. We have the education, the experience and we have the talent.
Talentpool
It is relatively easy to find good software developer for desktop applications. The techniques and languages involved are proven over decades and changed only little. Web systems are an entirely different beast. The technology evolves at neck breaking speed and it takes real dedication and skill to keep up. A bored cubicle developer working at a large code factory will never reach the same heights then the real geeks. The true development geniuses don't work in lange companies. Most of them are freelancers or work for small, fun agencies where they can live out their passion for high-end, cutting edge development. Some of our developers rejected offers to work for Google. If you are in the scene you know what that means.
Why they work with us? Because the single most important value of the Talentpool is to put the right person on the right job. We allow our developers and project managers to play by their strengths We know each and every one of them personally and most of them stay with us for many years. We give them the security of constant work-load without the monotony to work on the same thing for years. We trust them and in return they go out of their way to live up to that trust and that ideal we all have in common: Writing beautiful high-quality code for systems we can be proud of when they are done.
This creates a win-win-win. Happy developers, happy clients and happy Talentpool.
The hurdle to get into the Talentpool is high. Except of some extremely talented developers, the minimum requirements are at least 10 years of commercial software development experience and a masters degree in computer science. We test the developers within each project. If you get 5 people from us, we give you 4 veterans and one newbie. That way every client becomes part of the improvement program. No worries, we screen the newbies well before we let them lose and we keep a close eye on them too.
Our developers are not your typical one-trick-pony.
Most web developers are good in either PHP or ASP. They specialise early on one technology or framework and get good at it. Not ours! We make sure to only add developers to the pool that know their way around in several relevant programming languages and frameworks. This leads to much more flexibility and a better chance to chose the perfect technology for your project.
If the only tool you got is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail. We make sure, all team members have sufficient knowledge to understand the task and what technology is best to solve it.
Why I build this pool?
There are hundreds of outsourcing companies out there, why does the world need Talentpool?
It all started with me running a very large project rescue of a multi million dollar IT system. I was brought on board because the project was completely getting out of hands. Deadlines came and went, budgets only faint memories. In short, it was a real mess.
I began picking up the peaces and analyse what went so horribly wrong. After only a short time it became painfully obvious. The problems resulted of the typical mix between in-house project leaders who have not done a large scale development before, technical advisors who chose the platform they knew best (they can sell) and not the one best for the job and cheap resources from some outsourcing website (Like Elance, Odesk, Freelancer, Guru...).
It was almost heartbreaking to see where all that money spent has gotten the project. It is comparable to a skyscraper built by untrained labourers and a rookie architect who lost his plans and played it by ear. Yes, it looks a bit like a building in the end, but the corridors don't line up, the sprinkler system was skipped and walls where missing. After all a place you really would not want to live in.
As I have done so many times before, I began sorting out the situation by adding a strong technical lead to the project. With this person on board, we began creating detailed specifications and I started hiring great developers. It was not enough to only hire good developers, I needed excellent ones as building on bad code is much harder then doing it right in the first place.
After many months of development, the project was successfully launched. Stepping back from this experience, it dawned on me how many IT projects go bust exactly for the same reasons this one almost did. About 50% of all IT projects are not successful. That is a staggering number. I decided that there is a need for a solution. This was the birth of the Talentpool. I gathered all the great developers I worked with during the many years and added them to my pool. I kept (and still am) screening new people to gather a decent task force and here we are, ready to go. We will make sure that your project won't end up like so many others.
What came out is not a huge offshore company with cubicles but a task-force of only a few dozen high-end freelancers that work in virtual teams all over the world. Those developers with their different strengths can be injected into projects like pieces of a puzzle. They can be swapped around as the proect needs different skills in different stages.
I am also able to offer those developers for a very competitive rate for the reason that we don't have large offices and big overhead. Don't get me wrong, I would love a large building with hundreds of great guys in it. But if you think about it: If you are in one place, you are restricted to the talent that lives there. Not many top people move for a job. No way you can get a group of top people at one geographic location (unless you are in Silicon Valley) and if you could, it would come at a huge cost.
