Merchamp Optical Ltd, based in Dublin, have been in the business of selling high quality designer frames for 18 years. This site is being developed as a catalogue site so they can showcase their latest stock from a wide variety of top designers.
We have already come up with a wireframe, which you can find below from the url located under 'resources'. This wireframe is a rough guide of what we want the site to look like, and does not have to be adhered to strictly. In fact, if you need to change something on the guide then please feel free to do so.
Please check general feedback and other users feedback throughout the contest.
Merchamp Optical Ltd
We want a design that's cool, contemporary, sexy and easy on the eye. We want a design that the user sees and thinks, 'This is a cool looking site I must come back here'. Unless absolutely necessary, the font in the site all around should be arial, as we want to be using as much system text as possible. This includes headings etc, as we need to think about accessibility. The site has to make the site clear and easy to use. Each page in the site must be the same width (1000px) and there can be some variation on the height if needs be. We also like symetrical designs where sections have widths and heights (but more widths) that have nice round numbers and common aspect ratios (no ections 13 x 37px please). We want designs that flow naturally and are flexible to change.Resources
http://www.fintekweb.com/merchamp-siteplan.pdf - The wireframe for the site that we have put together as a guide.
We want three PSD files delivered without any of the images layers flattened. It will be our job to put these into XHTML and apply JS and CSS as needed.
From the pdf containing the site wireframe, the following three pages need designs:
-- Home
-- Viewing Brand
-- The Company
Sites we like:
http://www.emporioarmani.com – Great use of colour. Stylish and pulls off the dark colour so well. (see the sunglasses section under products as well)www.style.com – A little cluttered but we like the use of colour here and the overall mood of the site.http://www.louisvuitton.com - not sure about the music! but the layout is nice and simple and looks cool. http://www.dolcegabbana.com/ - Not mad on the layout but I like the mood it sets and the colours they use. http://www.net-a-porter.com/
- Looks good and has that thing about it that turns people into something like a kid in a candy store when they visit.
We don't want a site that requires flash for any part of it to function. This is going to be put together in valid XHTML and CSS to make it as accessible, usable and lightweight as possible.
We don't want the use of colours that are too strong or garish. We find that these are distracting for the user.
