The main focus of the main page will be the map on which the users are going to vote. As well, there will need to be an "anchor image" near the top of the page that will be related to the vote and somewhere under the anchor image a simple question (ie. the question that users are voting on). Lastly, there should be a countdown timer somewhere that will countdown how many hours or days remain until the vote is closed. The key is flow and the page must be "sexy".
In terms of navigation there should be a way for users to check their "Account", "Contact Us" and possible others that we may add later. However, the navigation is really not a focus as the main content is on the vote/map. There will also need to be a sign up button somewhere so users can register. May consider having the navigation be a drop-down box layered onto the reigster/login button.
The map should be cartoony, but still roughly follow the proportions of a Mercator projection of North America. There needs to be a graphic that we can use to indicate which cities are "active" for voting. The map doesn't need to be very detailed at all. The state borders are not necessary. You don't need to show major cities on the map, but we would like a graphic that we can use to indicate which cities are available for voting like a map marker / pin with the name of the city and something like a button for voting for that city
When the user clicks on a city, a voting overlay comes up that will either a) allow the users to vote if they are signed in or b) is the registration overlay with fields for email, age, location, password, password(2), captcha. There is also a submit button.
When the user submits their vote, the overlay changes to show a) a summary of the current votes; 2) an embedded youtube video; and 3) space for ~250 characters of text.
