Beschrijving van de organisatie en de doelgroep
The Washington Redskins are a professional American football team based in Washington, D.C. They've won 5 NFL Championships, 13 NFL divisional titles, and 6 NFL Conference Championships – so they're kind of a big deal.
The franchise has been facing a lot of criticism due to its long time controversial name and accompanying logo: http://image.funscrape.com/images/w…-29980.jpg
Our goal with this contest is to rebrand the franchise based on three different name suggestions with a logo that's a little more PC. And to have fun with it!

We are working with 3 different potential names: Warriors, Renegades, and Griffins. We would like you to pick one of these three names and create your design around that name.
You can design logos for more than one of these if you would like to give it a shot, but please only submit one logo at a time - we will be judging each logo on an individual basis and if you submit multiple versions in the same entry it will be eliminated and you will be asked to enter them separately to the contest. It would be great if you can add a few lines explaining your design too.
For the three potential names we received suggestions from reporters who have followed the controversy closely: Robert McCartney, Metro section columnist for The Washington Post, David Plotz, editor of Slate, and Ken Meringolo and Kevin Ewoldt, editors of SB Nation’s Hogs Haven blog.
McCartney, Meringolo and Ewoldt will also help us judge submissions – and we’re very happy to have them on board!
- Washington Warriors:
With the Warriors' name, feel free to try and use an American infantry soldier with GI combat helmet. Any Army references might work too.
McCartney's explanation: “Native Americans have long wanted to get rid of all Indian logos and mascots, so we have to find a non-Indian "Warrior" logo. Washington is the home of the Pentagon and Defense Department, so we are the home of the U.S. military. There is a large veterans population in the D.C. region, and in neighboring states.”
- Washington Renegades :
If you'll be designing to the name Renegades - we would love to see a "curly R." Please see image attached.
Meringolo's and Ewoldt's explanation: “I think the team could go back in time and adopt one of the greatest logos it ever had, which was the burgundy ‘Curly R’ on a gold helmet. ”
- Washington Griffins:
The Griffin is a legendary creature with the body, tail, and back legs of a lion; the head and wings of an eagle; and an eagle's talons as its front feet.
Plotz's – “Part eagle, part lion, part starting quarterback [Robert Griffin III].”
The designs shown do not necessarily have to depict these themes mentioned, but they're a good starting point. Think creatively - for example, look how the Green Bay Packer's logo is just a "G". We've attached a picture of it for reference, below.

The logos of the NFL have a certain tone and style, which we would like to stay with. Check out this Pinterest Board for examples of NFL logos:

In addition, we want to keep the logo simple, clean, and classic.
Finally, it would be neat to see these logos in action. Putting them on a helmet or a jersey is not required but is an awesome and welcome tactic for showcasing your design.
We're looking for creativity and are open to all ideas, so impress us! :)

Definitieve bestanden
